Your Bible Lesson For The Day
Why Do You Need The Bible?
To live daily you need to have the basic necessities of life. To live eternally you need to know the essential truths for eternal life. What are those essentials for eternal life? Jesus says in John 17:3, “And this is eternal life, that they come to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” To have eternal life you must know the only true God and Jesus Christ whom he sent to save you.
Now the apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 8:5-7, “For even if there are so-called gods whether in heaven or on earth, as there are many gods and many lords, but for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we are for him, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and we are through him. 7 However, not everyone has this knowledge.” There are many gods whom the people of this world worship. But there is only one God and only one Lord Jesus Christ. And as Paul stated, not everyone has this knowledge. Why not? Because the knowledge they gained from nature and their conscience does not contain this information. The same is true of your natural knowledge.
So you, like everyone else, need another source of information. 2 Timothy 3:15 tells you what that additional source is. “From infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus.” Paul’s co-worker Timothy from the time he was an infant was made wise for salvation. He knew what was the way to be saved – through faith in Christ Jesus. How did Timothy come to have that knowledge for salvation about Jesus Christ the Savior, whom God had sent? From the holy Scriptures. Timothy needed those holy Scriptures to teach him about God’s salvation and gift of eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
So, then, why do you need the Bible? For the same reason. The Bible, the book of the holy Scriptures, teaches you the essential truths about God and the Lord Jesus Christ, whom he sent to save you, so you may have eternal life. Therefore, treasure the Bible. it teaches you about God and your Savior Jesus Christ, through whom you have eternal life.
