Your Bible Lesson For The Day
How Do We Know There Is A God?
No doubt you have taken a walk where you live. When you looked at the houses lining the street, did you think to yourself, “Amazing how those houses grew up out of the ground all by themselves?” Of course not! No sane, rational person woud think something so foolish. Everyone knows that every house was built by someone.
And yet people are so foolish as to think this world and everything in it came into being all by itself. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hebrews 3:4 states, "For every house is built by someone, but God is the one who built all things.” Just as everyone knows that every house was built by someone, so everyone should also know that this world had a Builder. That Builder was God! We can know there is a God just by looking at the world around us. It did not happen by itself; God made it!
The world we live in tells us there is a God. Look at the stars, for example. Psalm 19:1 tells us, “The heavens recount the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” The sun, moon, stars, and planets all declare that God has made them. They are the work of his hands. So the next time you look up at the stars at night, know there is a God who made them.
God has made not only himself but also his invisible qualites known since the creation of the world. Romans 1:19, 20 tells us that what can be known about God can be plainly seen by the people of this world. For since God created this world he has made even his invisible qualities known by the things he has made. This being the case, Romans 1:20 says no one has an excuse for not knowing that God exists. Only the fool, then, says in his heart, “There is no God,” as Psalm 14:1 states. This describes the atheist and agnostic, who do not use their common sense to know from nature there is a God.
So how can we know there is a God? All we have to do is look at the world around us. Someone had to have made it. And that Maker – is God!
