How Can The Bible Serve You?

What does your coffee cup, thermometer, and computer all have in common?  They all have a purpose that can serve you.  The Bible has a number of purposes.  Do you know how the Bible can serve you?

James 1:21 tells you the Bible’s chief purpose.  “Humbly accept the word planted in you, which is able to save your souls.”  What can the Bible do for you?  It can save your soul.  It tells you to believe in Jesus Christ.

Psalm 119:93 says, “I will never forget your precepts, For by them you have restored my life.”  This psalm uses a variety of words for the Word of God.  In this verse the word is “precepts”.  The psalm writer would never forget God’s Word, because by it God restored his life, meaning his spiritual life.  So what can the Bible do for you?  It can restore and awaken spiritual life in you, which enables you to believe in Jesus to be saved.

Are you ever in need of comfort and hope at times of troubles and afflictions?  Then look to the Bible.  Psalm 119:92, says, “If your law (meaning God’s Word) had not been my delight, Then I would have perished in my affliction.”  What can delight you and provide you with comfort and hope in the times of your afflictions?  God’s Word.  This is another purpose that the Bible can serve for you.

The world is filled with every kind of sinful pleasure and temptation and lifestyle.  How can you keep from being misled into those sinful ways yourself?   Pslam 119:9 asks this question and gives the answer: “How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to your word.”  How can you keep your life pure from sinful ways?  By living according to God’s Word.  It serves as a guide on how to live a pure, holy, God-pleasing life.

A lot of people would lead you into sinful ways and false beliefs.  How can you tell who and what to believe and do?  Isaiah 8:20 tells you how.  It says, “To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.”  If people do not speak according to God’s Word, you know they are in error and going in the wrong ways.  The Bible can tell you who and what is true and false.  So how can the Bible serve you?  It can tell you right from wrong, so you avoid the errorists and their errors.

The Bible can serve you in these ways. So search the Scriptures!
