Your Bible Lesson For The Day
Do You Know Who Is The Author of The Bible?
When you are seeking a book on how to fix up your home or how to plan financially for your future, don’t you want to know that the author is indeed qualified and knowledgeable to give you the right information? Well, in your quest for the right spiritual information for your earthly and eternal life, don’t you want to know who is the source of the information that you are getting?
You look to the Bible for spiritual information. Do you know who authored it? Is the author qualified and knowledgeable to give you the right information? It is important for you to know this.
So, who authored the Bible? And how do you find out who is its author? In the case of a book, you look on the outside and in the inside of the front cover to find out who is the author. In a similar manner, look in the Bible and let it tell you who is its author.
When you do so, you see Hebrews 1:1,2 says, “God, having spoken long ago to the fathers by the prophets at many times and in various ways, in these last days has spoken to us by his Son.” This verse tells you that God spoke through the prophets of the Old Testament and then through his Son Jesus Christ. What they said, then, is the Word of God, who spoke through them.
There are a great many verses in the Old Testament that say God spoke through the prophet. And 2 Peter 1:21 says, “For no prophecy at some time or another was brought forward by the will of man; on the contrary, men spoke from God while being carried along by the Holy Spirit.” According to this verse God the Holy Spirit moved his prophets to speak and to write what they did in the Old Testament Scriptures. What they wrote, then, is the Word of God.
Then in the New Testament 1 Corinthians 2:13 says “. . . which things we also are speaking, not in words taught by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual truths with spiritual words.” The apostles of the New Testament did not speak what human wisdom had taught them but what God the Holy Spirit had taught them. What they spoke, then, was also the Word of God.
Consequently, 2 Timothy 3:16 states, “All Scripture is inspired by God.” The entire Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is Scripture. This being the case, from beginning to end the Bible is the inspired, or God-breathed, Word of God.
Since the entire Bible is the Word of God, do you know who is its author? God is its author.
