Your Bible Lesson For The Day
Do You Know What The Bible Is?
Colorado prospectors dig under the rocks and through the stones of the Rocky Mountains to look for valuable gemstones. What they find are dirty looking stones and rocks that to the untrained eye like mine look worthless. But those dirty looking stones and rocks are actually valuable gemstones.
To an untrained eye the Bible looks about like any other book. It may look like any other book with a cover and pages, but actually it is very precious. How does the Bible look to you? Do you know what it really is?
How can you find out what it is? Get inside of it and start reading it. It will tell you what it is.
Inside the Bible you will read in Mark 7:13 that Jesus told the Jewish leaders that when they invalidated with their traditions the fourth commandment of the Old Testament, they invalidated the Word of God. So what was written there in the Old Testament of the Bible was what? It was the Word of God.
In the Old Testament Book of Jeremiah you will read in Jeremiah 1:2, “The word of the Lord came to him.” So what Jeremiah wrote in his Old Testament book was what? It was the Word of God. And there are many verses in the Old Testament that say the Word of the Lord came to this or to that prophet. So what was written in the Old Testament was what? It was the Word of God.
In the New Testament Book of 1 Thessalonians 2:13 you will read that the apostle Paul said, “. . .when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you received it not as the word of men but just as it actually is – the word of God, . . .” Paul said that what he and his fellow workers proclaimed was the Word of God. What Paul and the other apostles and evangelists wrote in the New Testament, then, was the Word of God.
What was written in the whole Bible, in both Old and New Testaments, was the Word of God. So do you know now what the Bible is? It is the Word of God. And though the Bible on the outside may not look much different from many other books, do you know now why it is actually very precious? It is very precious because it is the Word of God. This being true, cherish it and hold it dear to your heart.
