Your Bible Lesson For The Day

Can You Be Certain Justification Saves You?

Most often when I talked to individuals in the past about their salvation in heaven and asked whether they knew where they would go when they died, they said something like, “To heaven – I hope.” Those individuals had their doubts. They were uncertain about having eternal life in heaven. What about you? Are you certain that you have eternal life in heaven? Can you be certain of it? Recall what you have learned in this series of brief Bible studies on justification by faith in Jesus. Then consider what God’s Word tells you in the two following verses.

It is written in Titus 1:2, “. . . the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time, . . .” This verse affirms that God does not lie. The confident hope of having eternal life is based on the promise of God who does not lie. And since God does not lie, and he has promised eternal salvation and life through faith in Jesus Christ from the beginning of time, you can be sure of it. And so his word that one is justified by faith and receives eternal life is true and certain. No ifs, buts, or doubts about it!

The apostle Paul held such a firm confidence and certainty. He wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Romans 8:38, 39, “I am convinced that neither death nor life nor angels nor demons nor things present nor things to come nor power nor height nor depth nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Was the apostle Paul convinced and certain? You bet he was! And you can be just as convinced and certain as well. For nothing can separate you from God’s love in Jesus Christ.

So can you be certain justification by faith saves you?  Yes, indeed! God’s word guarantees it.
