What Did The Savior Jesus Christ, Who Is God And Man, Do To Save Us?
Humility is an uncommon virtue. People tend to be proud and vainglorious. Whether we want to admit it or not, we are likely to be guilty of sinful pride ourselves.
Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was different however. He never sinned, which Includes never having been guilty of sinful pride. In the process of saving us from the guilt of our sins and the punishment of hell, he set an example for us to follow. What did he do to save us? Look at what the following verses of God’s Word say.
Philippians 2:5-8 state: “Keep having this attitude in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider his being equal with God a thing to be attained, but emptied himself in this way that he took the form of a slave when he came to be in the likeness of men; and being found as a man in characteristics, he humbled himself by becoming obedient unto death – yes, death on a cross!” These verses tell you that though the man Jesus was God, he did not consider living before the world as God something he should do to obtain divine honor for himself. Rather, he humbled himself to live as a mere man, as the servant of God, who had come to do God’s will. And God’s will for him was to go to the cross to die to save us sinners. And this he did. In his own words that are recorded in Matthew 20:28 Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus gave his life on the cross as the price, the ransom, to set us free from Satan, sin, death, and hell.
So what did the God/Man and Savior Jesus Christ do to save us? He humbled himself to suffer and to die to pay for our sins.
