Your Bible Lesson For The Day
How Does God Want You To Use The Bible?
When parents give a boy a bike, they tell him how they want him to use it safely. Similarly, God has given us the Bible and tells us how he wants us to use it. Do you know how God wants you to use the Bible?
In James1:21 God tells you “. . . humbly accept the word planted in you, which is able to save your souls. . “ And Romans 1:2 tells you, “. . . the gospel of God, which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures, . . .” These verses clarify that God wants you to accept and believe what the Bible says as his holy Word.
Hebrews 10:25 states, “. . . not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as some have the habit of doing . . .” Christians assemble together in worship to hear and learn God’s Word recorded in the Bible. In this verse God says he does not want you to stop attending worship services to hear and learn his Word.
John 5:39 says, “Search the Scriptures because you think you have eternal life in them.” How does God want you to use the Bible? He wants you to search the Bible and study what it says.
Psalm 1:1,2 states, “O the blessedness of the man. . . his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in his law he meditates day and night.” The word “law” is used for all of God’s Word. The Psalm verse makes it clear God wants you to delight in and to meditate on his Word.
From Romans 10:17 you learn, “Consequently, faith comes from hearing, and the hearing by means of the word of Christ.” How does faith come about? From hearing God’s Word preached and taught. So how does God want you to use the Bible? Hear it preached and taught.
James 1:22 informs you, “And always be doers of the word and not only hearers who deceive themselves.” In addition to hearing his Word from the Bible, how does this verse tell you to use God’s Word? Do what it says.
And Psalm 51:13 says, “Then I will indeed teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.” The psalm writer says he will use God’s Word to teach it to people, so they will repent of their sins and turn to God. How, then, does God want you to use the Bible? To teach his Word to others for their faith and salvation.
From these verses you have now learned God wants you to use his Word to do what? To believe what it says and regard it as holy. To meditate on it and study it. To attend worship services to hear it preached and taught regularly. To do what it says. And to teach it to others. Is this how you are using the Bible?
